About Us

Walk into a 90's neighbourhood, a world before smartphones and streaming when life was slower, moments were savored, and nostalgia was woven into the everyday. The thrill of a new cassette, the tring-tring sound of the bicycles and the arrival of our gubbare-wala, the joy of street cricket, the warmth of handwritten letters and each memory a thread in the tapestry of childhood.

From Doordarshan marathons to tailor-made outfits, from summer afternoons drenched in mangoes to festival nights glowing with diyas, simplicity had its own magic. The 90s wasn’t just an era, it was a feeling. A time of connection, creativity, and unhurried joy.

At Gubbara, we are not just romanticizing the past but taking those special pieces and weaving them into our lives now.

We don’t want to build a brand, we want to build a feeling. One that gives you a warm hug!

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Kanupriya, a mother of two boys—Ayaan (6) and Ved (2)—is a business management graduate from Christ University, Bangalore. She began her career at Goldman Sachs in investment banking before transitioning to the startup world as Head of Business Development at an FMCG company. She also pursued a short-term program at IIM Bangalore, further honing her business acumen before embarking on her entrepreneurial journey.

''First came Panchhi, a dream woven with the threads of tradition, designed to celebrate childhood in all its wonder. It was my way of bringing heirloom-worthy craftsmanship to little wardrobes, ensuring that even the smallest fashionistas could carry a piece of heritage with them.

And now, there is Gubbara—a love letter to the simple joys of the past, reimagined for today. If Panchhi was my way of holding onto childhood nostalgia, Gubbara is about living it—slowly, consciously, joyfully. Inspired by the easy, unfussy charm of a 90s summer day, it’s a brand that invites both adults and kids to embrace a slower, more intentional way of life. Our first step begins with swimwear, crafted sustainably from recycled plastic bottles, because the future deserves as much love as the past.

Both brands are fueled by the same essence—nostalgia, craftsmanship, and a belief in designs that last beyond trends. While Panchhi carries my dream of blending tradition with childhood, Gubbara expands that vision to an entire way of life.

Here’s to slowing down, soaking it in, and living a little lighter—just like a balloon floating in the wind.''
